Eagles practice squad news: Sterns returns

Eagles practice squad news: Sterns returns

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced two transactions on Wednesday. Here’s an overview:

  • S Caden Sterns was signed to the practice squad.
  • TE Jack Stoll was released from the practice squad.

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

CADEN STERNS

The Eagles originally signed Sterns back in training camp after he first got cut by the Denver Broncos and then was released by the Carolina Panthers after failing a physical.

The Eagles cut Sterns last week. Here’s what we wrote at the time:

A little curious to see Sterns get cut after the Eagles originally added him to their 90-man roster knowing he was hurt and wouldn’t be able to practice. Maybe he’ll be back at some point? Or maybe the injury concerns are a bigger issue than originally expected?

Maybe he’s healthy now? We’ll see if he’s able to stick around this time.

JACK STOLL

The Eagles signed Stoll to their practice squad shortly after he got cut by the New York Giants. With the Eagles opting to temporarily elevate E.J. Jenkins as the third tight end in Week 1, it’s clear that Stoll was TE4 at best. The team could conceivably look to re-sign him again as they churn the practice squad configuration but we’ll see.

ONE OPEN SPOT REMAINS

The Eagles still have one practice squad opening. After losing Dylan McMahon to the Los Angeles Rams, the Eagles cut three practice squad players and signed three. So, sincee Tuesday, a total four went out and only three came back in.
