Week 1 of the 2024 NFL Season concludes on Monday Night Football when the New York Jets face the San Francisco 49ers.
Storylines abound in this game as the 49ers look to avoid the dreaded Super Bowl hangover and once again prove that they’re among the class of the NFC. San Francisco underwent their share of drama over the off-season as they worked out a long-term contract with WR Brandon Aiyuk. At the same time, they had to contend with OT Trent Williams holding out for a new contract, as well as an injury to star running back Christian McCaffrey.
On the Jets side of things, the story is unquestionably the return of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers famously suffered a ruptured Achilles on the fourth play of the season last year, leaving them with Zach Wilson for another year.
Wilson is now the Denver Broncos third string quarterback, while former New York Giants QB Tyrod Taylor is backing up Rodgers.
Chris’ pick: The 49ers come into this game as 4.5-point favorites, but I’m going to have to go with the Jets for the upset. Trent Williams is in his first game back from a hold out and San Francisco’s offensive line is a question. That could be bad news in the face of the Jets’ fierce defensive front.
