Checking in on Philadelphia’s 2024 NFL Draft class.
The Eagles kicked off the season with a nail biting win over the Packers in Brazil. While it was the veteran stars that made the biggest impact, the Eagles rookies still played their parts in the Eagles regular season debut.
Quinyon Mitchell: B+
It is rare for a rookie cornerback to come in on day one and play well, but that is what Quinyon Mitchell did. He looked calm and composed in coverage, making a few impressive plays when targeted. He made some good tackles as well. It was a solid performance, which is a great indicator given how early in his career Mitchell is. The Eagles are clearly set on him being a starting outside cornerback, with Mitchell receiving over 60 defensive snaps through the whole game.
The Rest
- Cooper DeJean only saw six defensive snaps on Friday. The cornerback room has a lot of depth at the moment and it’s no surprise the Eagles are easing DeJean in as they find him a role.
- Jalyx Hunt was a healthy scratch.
- Will Shipley saw a few snaps on offense in 21 personnel on passing downs but didn’t receive a target. He is clearly RB3 behind Saquon Barkley and Kenneth Gainwell.
- Jeremiah Trotter Junior didn’t see the field on defense. Zack Baun took command of the inside linebacker job against Green Bay and Nakobe Dean looks comfortable.
- Johnny Wilson received one target and did some blocking but otherwise wasn’t a factor in this game.
- Trevor Keegan was a healthy scratch.
- Ainias Smith is on injured reserve. He’s not eligible to be activated until after Week 4.
- Dylan McMahon is on the practice squad.
