My overall record last season was 153-124-8, which was a little behind the collective BGN community at 156-121-8. Let’s see if you can beat me once again.
Here are suggestions when trying to beat the odds.
NFL WEEK 1 GAMES
TENNESSEE TITANS at CHICAGO BEARS (-3.5): The Bears are on the rise, in part because getting rid of Justin Fields is big-time addition by subtraction. Caleb Williams is going to be good. PICK: Bears -3.5
PITTSBURGH STEELERS at ATLANTA FALCONS (-4.5): I don’t love putting faith in Kirk Cousins. Or betting against Mike Tomlin as an underdog. But I do like fading Fields. If there anyone who could ruin the Steelers’ non-losing season streak, it’s Fields. PICK: Falcons -4.5
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS at MIAMI DOLPHINS (-3.5): Tyreek Hill getting arrested on his way to the game is certainly a weird vibe. I think the Dolphins still win but the Jags will keep it competitive. PICK: Jaguars +3.5
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS at CINCINNATI BENGALS (-7.5): Jacoby Brissett looked pretty terrible when I watched the Eagles and Pats practice this summer. So did New England’s offensive line. PICK: Bengals -7.5
HOUSTON TEXANS (-3) at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: The Texans seem to be on the rise. Anthony Richardson is still a question mark. PICK: Texans -3
MINNESOTA VIKINGS (-1.5) at NEW YORK GIANTS: The Giants’ offensive line is still a question mark. They do not deserve benefit of the doubt. PICK: Vikings -1.5
CAROLINA PANTHERS at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (-3.5): Gotta see something from Bryce Young before I can give the Panthers any kind of benefit of the doubt. PICK: Saints -3.5
ARIZONA CARDINALS at BUFFALO BILLS (-6.5): The Bills had a curious offseason. Josh Allen is quite capable of carrying his team but I don’t know if it’ll be pretty against a Cards team that might be more mediocre than flat out bad. PICK: Cardinals +6.5
LAS VEGAS RAIDERS at LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (-3): Jim Harbaugh wins. And I’m not putting faith in the Raiders’ quarterback situation. PICK: Chargers -3
DENVER BRONCOS at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (-6.5): I think Geno Smith and the Seahawks are getting more benefit of the doubt than they deserve. Sean Payton, while unlikable, still might be a pretty good coach. PICK: Broncos +6.5
DALLAS COWBOYS at CLEVELAND BROWNS (-2.5): Deshaun Watson stinks and he’s playing without his starting left tackle. The Cowboys should be favored here; this is my Lock Of The Week pick. PICK: Cowboys +2.5
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (-3.5): The Bucs finished strong but were pretty bad at times last year. The Commanders might be slept on a little bit. PICK: Commanders +3.5
LOS ANGELES RAMS at DETROIT LIONS (-4.5): Give me Dan Campbell, who plays to win, over the cowardly Sean McVay any day. PICK: -Lions 4.5
NEW YORK JETS at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (-3.5): The Niners have a history of owning Aaron Rodgers. PICK: 49ers -3.5
