NFL Week 1 Preview: Schedule, storylines and matchups to watch | PFF
Matchups to watch: Giants WR Malik Nabers vs. Vikings CB Stephon Gilmore
The second receiver off the board in the 2024 draft, Nabers possesses rare traits we don’t often see at even the position’s highest levels. His elite ability to separate helped him to generate a 93.1 PFF receiving grade in his final college season. The former Defensive Player of the Year has entered the mercenary phase of his career, but that’s not a slight. Gilmore still has plenty of good snaps left in him, having recorded 18 forced incompletions (17% of his coverage targets) in his 12th year.

New York Giants ownership expects ‘significant improvement’ in 2024. Will they get it? | The Athletic
For Schoen, he needs his draft picks to deliver. None of the picks from Schoen’s first two draft classes are established yet as upper-level players, although 2022 first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux showed promise with 11.5 sacks last season. The biggest hope for a star draft pick is this year’s first-round selection, Malik Nabers. Second-round rookie Tyler Nubin is in line to start at safety, while third-round rookie Dru Phillips will be the starting nickel cornerback. Picks like that need to develop into core players.
On one hand, Schoen and Daboll deserve credit for not gifting starting jobs to young players who haven’t earned them. But stopgaps like Van Roten and Jackson aren’t part of the long-term vision Schoen has been preaching this offseason.

Tyler Nubin is confident. People are sleeping on the Giants’ 2nd round safety, according to Pat Leonard, as he intends to make his presence felt on Sunday against the Vikings.
Giants’ Brian Daboll encouraged by what he’s seen from Adoree’ Jackson | USAToday.com
Daboll appears to be pleased with Jackson’s progress this week in practice.
“He looks good. In shape,” said Daboll. “He’s had a couple good practices. Picked up the system well. He’s been with Shane (Bowen) before. Encouraged by the last few days with him.” The head coach added “We’ll make that decision. We’ll have someone in mind. We’ll talk about that after practice today.”
Five Ways the Giants Must Show Improvement in 2024 | SI.com
Everyone has been pleading for the Giants offense to produce more explosive plays. The Giants had just 31 explosive passing plays last season, with an average explosive pass rate of 5%, which was dead last in the league. Their rushing output wasn’t much better, producing only 37 explosive rushes with an average explosive run rate of 9%, which was 28th in the NFL. To make matters worse, the Giants also averaged just 6.5 yards per passing play. This is clearly not the recipe for success.

“I feel like we’re in a good spot,” the 27-year-old Jones said. “I think we’re confident. We’ve had a good camp, we’re prepared and we’ve got to go out and execute on Sunday. I think it’s about taking the work that you’ve put in over these last, really since this spring, and translating that to the field. Understanding this game plan, getting on the same page and then executing on Sunday. I feel good, I think we’re confident and ready to go.”
NY Giants: These 5 factors to decide if they can return to playoffs | The Record
The Giants brought Burns here to be a centerpiece with Dexter Lawrence, and we’ll get to Kayvon Thibodeaux in the next entry. There will be some growing pains in Shane Bowen’s first year as defensive coordinator, especially with a young secondary, but this unit can’t finish ranked 26th in points allowed this year. Approach the Top 15 and put the onus on the offense to hold up its end.
Devin Singletary is ready to be the Giants’ bell cow running back | New York Post
After five years spent in split backfields with the likes of Frank Gore, Zack Moss, James Cook and Dameon Pierce, Singletary’s days being told to share (carries) might be over now that he is with the Giants.
“That’s what you work for, so I’m excited for this year,” Singletary said. “You see a little bit across the league there are still a few guys doing it. That’s the name of the game when you are a back. You want to be able to do everything…My [mentality] has always set me apart from a lot of people. Just the way I go about things, being a dog. I’m going to give you everything I’ve got. And the guys can feed off that energy.”
Giants are among NFL’s youngest teams. Will that save Brian Daboll, Joe Schoen from firing? | NJ.com
The results for the Giants’ Brian Daboll/Joe Schoen head coach/general manager regime started out great in 2022. The Giants opened 6-1 and then 7-2. And though they won just two of their next seven games — with a tie thrown in — they managed to reach the playoffs with a 9-7-1 record. And then they beat the Vikings on the road in a wild-card playoff game.

J.J. McCarthy on missing the season: “It’s tough, it’s kind of a kick in the b@lls” | Pro Football Talk
McCarthy said that he didn’t realize during during the preseason game when he suffered the injury that anything was wrong, and he’s still not sure exactly when in the game he tore his meniscus. Only the day after the game, when his knee started to buckle when walking downstairs, did it occur to him he needed to get the knee checked out.
‘We about to go crazy’
