LET’S GO! Here’s everything you need to know about the Eagles’ 2024 season opener.
We made it! The Philadelphia Eagles will kick off the 2024 NFL season with an international business trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil to face the Green Bay Packers on Friday night.
Head coach Nick Sirianni has talked several times in the lead up to this game about how special it is for him, and the team, to be back playing under the lights on Friday night — just like they all grew up doing. Not only is it a moment to reflect on the past, it’s an opportunity to look ahead as the Eagles get to be a part of NFL history in the first ever game in South America.
Saquon Barkley said the heft of doing something no one has ever done before has been overshadowed in the narratives around this game, and Jalen Hurts spoke to reporters about how surreal it is to be a kid from East Houston who now gets to play American football in Brazil.
Jordan Mailata also talked about how playing an international game, in an effort to grow the game, is a huge honor, especially as someone who benefitted from the international pathway program. He explained that playing a game in Brazil isn’t just important for the NFL, it’s important for guys just like him, who might not have grown up with the game, but found a passion in it.
The Friday night opener is technically billed as a home game, but without the team playing at Lincoln Financial Field, it hardly qualifies. Sirianni admitted that they were bummed not to get to open their season in Philly, but were excited to experience Brazil’s passionate fanbase.
The people of Sao Paulo should get a show, too, with the Eagles offensive starters having yet to take the field together in 2024. This group has all the potential in the world, but as Hurts often reminds, it doesn’t mean anything if they don’t play as a team. Still, it’s hard to think that an offense that consists of Hurts, Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert isn’t going to be incredibly exciting to watch.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch the game.

History Lesson
The Packers lead the all-time series between these teams, 27-16, but the Eagles have won two of the three most recent meetings. They last faced off back in 2022, with the Eagles winning at home, 40-33. While Green Bay leads the all-time regular season series, Philadelphia has a 2-1 lead over the Packers in postseason contests, but it’s been nearly 13 years since they’ve played each other in the playoffs.
